According to the Oxford dictionary an ALTAR is a structure on which to make sacrifices or offerings to a deity. Or, ALTAR is a Communion table.

Old and New Testament scripture states Christ was the final sacrifice for our sin. This allowed us to supersede that ancient practice of regular guilt offerings to justify ourselves.

If we by faith would believe this extraordinary claim about Christ, God could then commune with us directly, as sinless sons, instead of disciplining our resistance, which makes up so much of the Jewish Old Testament. The Old Testament has extraordinary prophecies about Christ, long before he arrived to be that final sacrifice for our sins. Those ancient words are still the answer to our very real human plight today, within our "post-modern", jealously-defended veneer of sophistication. Fortunately God draws us to this faith by Love, and then provides the means for us to believe, otherwise through Sin, our natural minds could not reach His Supernatural Nature. But through Christ we can. So now the ALTAR of Judgement, the Cross, becomes the Communion Table.

This supernatural interface fuels my art practise for this exhibition. The text below the innocently spontaneous layers of paint was my search for useful questions in my attempt to really get to grips with the "Christ" Mathew's gospel describes. In truth, the paintings aside, just the reading of Matthew's gospel would be enough to meet Christ.
